Vendor program

Meta (Facebook and Instagram) fundraising tools for nonprofits

Meta lets eligible nonprofits add Donate buttons, fundraisers and donation stickers on Facebook and Instagram. In the US, UK, Canada and Australia, donations are processed by PayPal Giving Fund. Elsewhere only tools that send people to your own donation page are available. Fundraising tools stopped in the European Economic Area, including Ireland, from July 2024.

What you get

  • Donate buttons on your Facebook Page, posts and live videos
  • Fundraisers on Facebook and Instagram, donation stickers and a Support button on Instagram
  • Automated thanking tools and donation link review (a Donate button on links to your own fundraising site)
  • Donations processed through PayPal Giving Fund in supported countries

Who's eligible

Native fundraising (donations on Facebook and Instagram) is available only in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia (Meta). In other countries Meta offers tools that help send people to your own site. Since 1 July 2024 native tools have not been available in the EEA, which includes Ireland. New Zealand is not listed as a native country.

  • Registered nonprofit or charity in a supported country (US: 501(c)(3))
  • A Facebook Page set as a Nonprofit or Charity category with a full address
  • A bank account and enrolment with PayPal Giving Fund
  • Meta may review your Page and organisation before approval

Usually not eligible

  • Charities in the EEA (native donation tools discontinued)
  • Organisations in countries where native tools are not offered

How to apply

  1. 1Check your country is US, UK, Canada or Australia for native donations.
  2. 2Make sure your Facebook Page category is Nonprofit or Charity and its address is complete.
  3. 3Apply through Meta's charitable giving tools signup (Charity Manager) and register with PayPal Giving Fund when prompted.
  4. 4After approval, add the Donate button to your Page, link fundraisers and enable Instagram support tools.
  5. 5Outside those countries, submit your own donation page link for Meta's review so shares may show a Donate button.

Typical approval time: Not stated. PayPal Giving Fund pays out within about 15 to 45 days (secondary source).

Have these ready

  • Charity or tax registration number
  • Bank account details for payouts
  • Your Facebook Page and, for Instagram, a linked professional account

Tips

  • Meta's help pages require a login in some places and could not be read directly; details come from Meta's resource centre and secondary guides.
  • Do not rely on one platform for donations. Keep your own donation page and email list.
  • Meta pays processing fees for charities outside the four native countries, but fees in the four countries are governed by PayPal Giving Fund.
