About GPT4All+

GPT4All, from Nomic, is a free desktop app that runs open AI models locally on Windows, macOS and Linux, including on computers without a powerful graphics card. Its LocalDocs feature lets you ask questions about your own files without uploading them. Note that its latest release found in this research is from February 2025, so check it is still maintained before relying on it.

Data & privacy+

Nomic states that no data leaves your machine and no cloud connection is needed. Telemetry and analytics settings were not confirmed in this research; check the app settings. If you connect a remote provider (supported in recent versions), your data goes to that provider, so leave this off for sensitive work.
