About Square+

Square is a payments company best known for card readers and point of sale. Nonprofits use it to take donations at events and shops (in person, by link or online), with no monthly fee on the free plan. Unlike Stripe or PayPal, Square publishes no dedicated nonprofit processing discount.

Pricing: Free plan: you only pay per transaction. UK page: in-person card payments 1.75%, online 1.4% + 25p for UK cards, invoices and keyed payments 2.5%; Plus plan from £29/month. US rates reported by third-party sources: in-person 2.6% + 15 cents, online 3.3% + 30 cents (not confirmed on a vendor page today). Rates differ by country. Third-party sources say Square has no nonprofit-specific discount, though custom rates may be negotiated at high volume (about US$250,000 a year).
