Great for

  • Organisations whose staff, funders and partners rely on desktop Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Charities that need stronger device and security controls (Business Premium)
  • Organisations already using Teams, SharePoint, Power BI or Dynamics 365
  • Larger or regulated organisations needing compliance tools
  • Best desktop Office apps and Excel for finance work
  • Free Business Basic for up to 300 users

Watch out for

  • Tiny volunteer-led groups that need a simple setup with no IT help
  • Organisations that only need free email, shared files and meetings (Google Workspace may be simpler)
  • Teams that want to avoid annual commitments (nonprofit plans are billed annually)
  • Free grant now excludes desktop apps (Business Basic is web and mobile only)
  • Annual commitment and price changes on 1 July 2026
  • More complex to set up and manage than Google Workspace
